RYEDALE FESTIVAL 2012

Friday 13th July  -  Sunday 29th July

45 EVENTS IN 28 LOCATIONS.

Welcome to the Ryedale Festival 2012. For two weeks every July, we welcome performers from all over the world, both established and emerging, to the many beautiful and historic venues of Ryedale.  We invite you to come and enjoy the magic of live performance.

The Nash Ensemble thrilled a large audience at St. Peter's Church, Norton for the launch of the 2012 Ryedale Festival.  Afterwards, festival Artistic Director Christopher Glynn introduced the programme for the coming festival and brochures were distributed.

The sights of the festival will be many and varied,  from the solemn splendour of music composed for the Orthodox church to one of Stravinsky’s most witty and inventive scores.   From the festival production of Tchaikovsky’s richly melodic opera. Eugene Onegin come the two themes that run through the Festival - Russian music and the ‘music of
dance’.

We welcome many superb performers - among them -

Kate Royal
Born in London, Kate Royal studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. Her many awards include the 2004 Kathleen Ferrier Award, the 2004 John Christie Award at Glyndebourne and the 2006 Royal Philharmonic Society Award as Best Newcomer.
'Royal is fast emerging as one of our great lyric sopranos…with her ravishing voice and statuesque beauty’ - The Spectator
‘Hers is a generous, open, frank voice that sounds as though it could burst into laughter or tears at any second - she's a persuasive storyteller’ - The Independent.

Andrej Bielow
Ukranian violinist Andrej Bielow, our artist in residence, was born into a musical family  and began violin lessons at the age of five. His wide-ranging repertoire includes 30 concerti for violin and orchestra.  He is a leader of the established Szymanowski Quartett and took a teaching position at the University of Music and Drama Hannover,   He regularly gives Masterclasses in Europe, Asia and USA

Kit Armstrong
- 19 year-old classical pianist, composer and polymath.  At 10 he had composed more than 15 works.
“Composing is the basis upon which I think about music,” says Armstrong. “When one’s creativity is captivated by something, it tries to imitate it. So I saw music and wanted to make my own.” (Interview in Concerti)

Tine Thing Helseth

started to play the trumpet at the age of 7, and is one of the leading trumpet soloists of her generation. She joins the festival’s Artistic Director to play music from her latest acclaimed album for EMI Classics, Storyteller.
‘Helseth took every opportunity to show what a fine instrumentalist she is’ – The Guardian
‘Gorgeous bugle-like tone’ – The Independent.

Northern Sinfonia
is one of Europe’s most exciting orchestras. Its repertoire covers the full range of Western classical music from early baroque, through the classical and romantic periods, to specially commissioned new work.
“The Sage Gateshead has become one of the world’s most admired centres for music and Northern Sinfonia has raised its game to match.” Richard Morrison, The Times

Ryedale Festival Needs Sponsors!

Sponsorship is what keeps the festival alive.

It is a special kind of giving that reaches out and shares its results with many satisfied people:  the audience who are able to enjoy a memorable concert or other event and of course the artists themselves.  It could be a well established artist sharing his talent or it could be someone just starting out on an exciting career who is given the opportunity to perform.  This is all in addition to the pleasure received by the Sponsor’s guests as they enjoy the benefit of best seats to the performance. Equally important it is your opportunity as a Sponsor to use this as a marketing tool.
