Following The Creation in 2008, we present Haydn’s great Missa in Tempore Belli in Ampleforth.
Written at the time of the Napoleonic Wars, this masterpiece evokes the distant sound of Napoleon’s cannons (hence its nickname, the Timpani Mass).
Mendelssohn’s beautiful motet (which includes O for the wings of a dove) and the magnificent Mass that Kodály wrote during the second world war complete the programme in this, the first of three concerts given by the Northern Sinfonia.
The Festival Bus runs to this event.
