Top tenor returns to family fold for festival.
Gazette & Herald Wednesday 11th July
International star Mark Padmore will have a special Ryedale resident in the audience when he performs in the area – his proud dad!
The tenor is taking time out from an acclaimed season at Glyndebourne to fit in a celebrity recital at Settrington House.
And dad Peter Padmore, or Piercy End, Kirkbymoorside, will be on hand to hear his performance in the Ryedale Festival, as he has been in Vienna, Saltsburg and Berlin.
“I’ve taken my holiday in places where he has performed. I’m very proud of him – it’s extremely difficult at concerts not to say to people around me that Mark is my son.
“He has a reputation as a top class tenor in this country and of the continent as well as gaining recognition in America and Japan,” said Peter.
Although Mark has been singing since he was aged around 11, it all might have been different – in his teens he was heading for a career playing clarinet..
“Mark decided on a change of direction and gained a choral scholarship to King’s College, Cambridge,” said Peter. “He has worked very hard and gone on to achieve outstanding success with his performances.”
His next will be Schubert’s powerful portrayal of a journey haunted by love and death in Winterreise on Monday, July 16th at 8 p.m. in the Riding School, Settrington House....
Tickets for the Festival, which features around 40 events in more than 20 venues over 16 days, are available on 01751 475777.
