The Galitzin Quartet
Haydn Quartet op.64 no.5 'Lark'
Britten Quartet no.3
Mozart Quartet in E flat K.428
Current holders of the Leverhulme Junior Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music, the Galitzin Quartet was formed in May 2003 and has already won several major prizes, including the Sir Arthur Bliss Prize for their performance of Bliss’s Clarinet Quintet with clarinettist Julian Bliss. The soaring first violin writing that gives Haydn’s ‘Lark’ quartet its nickname is echoed in the third movement of Britten’s third quartet, an impassioned late work in which the composer drew upon his opera Death in Venice.
