The members of the Rodolfus Choir are chosen from past and present students of the Eton Choral Courses which nurture many of the country’s finest choral singers, and this glorious sequence of music will demonstrate the choir’s great versatility. Gottwald’s choral transcription of Des pas sur la neige marries one of Debussy’s Preludes with texts by Rilke and Mallarmé, and in this and his Mahler arrangements Gottwald exploits a huge range of choral textures. The young American composer Whitacre is becoming very well known for his melodic, accessible style and for the kaleidescopic colours he brings from a choir. Ralph Allwood is Precentor and Director of Music at Eton College and is one of the country’s finest choral directors and arrangers.
