The Orchestra of Opera North returns to Ampleforth following a stunning performance at last year’s Festival, and is joined by an outstanding cast of soloists for this opening concert. With baritone Riccardo Simonetti in the title role, two of the country’s finest chamber choirs will perform Mendelssohn’s dramatic oratorio – a vivid, fiery and emotionally charged depiction of the life of the prophet Elijah. Written for the Birmingham Festival, Mendelssohn’s work clearly owes much to Bach, from whose music he took great inspiration.
