Brahms Sonata in G op.78 (Regenlied)
‘Agile, incisive and impassioned’ (BBC Music Magazine), Alexandra Wood has won major prizes at international violin competitions including the Wieniawski, Tibor Varga and Yampolsky. She has given recitals the Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Bath and Brighton Festivals and at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall, and she has played concerti with the Philharmonia, City of London Sinfonia and the Orchestra of St John’s Smith Square.
Associate Professor of Violin at Leeds College of Music, Alexandra is most certainly ‘a talent to watch’ (The Strad).
Brahms wrote the G major Sonata at around the same time as his Violin Concerto; it is dubbed the ‘Regenlied’ because it quotes a song of that title that Brahms had written a few years earlier.
Coffee will be served from 10.15 a.m. - 10.45 a.m.
