2008 Festival
14) Wednesday 16th July - 8.00 p.m.
All Saints' Church, Helmsley
Polymnia Wind Ensemble
Strauss Serenade in E flat op.7
Nielsen Serenata in Vano
Mozart Serenade in C minor K.388
Beethoven Rondino in E flat
Dvorák Slavonic Dance op.71 no.1
Dvorák Serenade for Winds in D minor op.44
Two pinnacles of the wind ensemble repertoire: Strauss’ Serenade is scored for 13 winds, Dvorák’s work adds cello and double bass. Brahms wrote to the violinist Joseph Joachim (who performed in Ryedale in 1900) about Dvorák’s Serenade ‘It would be difficult to discover a finer, more refreshing impression of really abundant and charming creative talent.’
This exciting new ensemble is formed from recent conservatoire graduates whose innovative projects include work in Uganda.
