2008 Festival

11) Tuesday 15th July - 11.00 a.m.

Duncombe Park

Celebrity Coffee concert - James Barralet - violoncello

Bach Suite no. 1 in G
Roxburgh Partita
Kodaly Sonata for solo cello op.8
Improvisation on Tagore Boatman Song

Born in 1979, James has performed throughout Europe and in India, Korea, Russia and the USA.

This programme of music for unaccompanied cello juxtaposes Bach’s glorious Suite in G with Edwin Roxburgh’s Partita (written as a test piece for the 1972 Tchaikovsky competition) and Kodály’s virtuosic Sonata. Barralet’s wide-ranging musical interests are reflected in his improvisation on a song by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Coffee will be served from 10.15 a.m. - 10.45 a.m.
