East African ‘benga’ rhythms, South African ‘kwella’ grooves, traditional lullabies, ritual songs performed by choir, children’s choir, jazz ensemble, African drummers/dancers, film footage and still photographs of Africa . . . this is a potent combination!

A major new work from composer Alexander L’Estrange, Zimbe! sets traditional songs from South Africa and Botswana, and is paired with newly-created arrangements of songs from Kenya and Tanzania, blending with live footage of singers in Kenya performing the same songs.

This promises to be an electrifying event.
