Kodály Háry János
Háry János (pronounced ‘Harry Yannosh’) was a private for nine years in the Austrian imperial army around 1800. Back in civilian life, he told great tales of his heroism (all from his imagination!) – such as how he captured Napoleon, and his relationship with the emperor’s daughter – and these stories form the basis of Kodály’s comic opera.
A great evening’s entertainment with glorious music (the orchestra includes the cimbalom, an evocative Hungarian folk instrument) from the same creative team that produced Gluck’s Orfeo and Handel’s Orlando in recent years.
