2010 Festival

1812 Production - 84 Charing Cross Road

In 1949 Helene Hanff, a struggling American writer, started a correspondence with Frank Doel, chief buyer of Marks & Co, a British antiquarian book-sellers that was to last for 20 years. The warm, compassionate and very human exchange of letters was published as a book and then skillfully and lovingly adapted for the stage in 1980. It has since been adapted for television and made into a film and, in 2007, re-adapted for radio.
