Mozart – Paris Symphony
Tchaikovsky – Rococo Variations
Mendelssohn – Italian Symphony

This concert is based around two composer voyages – Mozart’s to Paris and Mendelssohn’s to Italy – and the symphonies which were inspired by them. Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations are also a journey of a kind – an inspired piece of time-travel back to the style and grace of the 18th century and a great virtuoso showpiece for cello. The Orchestra of Opera North is joined by two renowned musicians - Colin Carr and Yasuo Shinozaki.

The virtuoso conductor Michael Collins was to conduct at this performance but unfortunately he is unable to do so because of illness.

However, we have great pleasure in welcoming to the Ryedale Festival Yasuo Shinozaki who has agreed to step in at short notice to conduct this event and to whom we are most grateful.

Yasuo Shinozaki is a passionate musician, an excellent technical conductor and a charismatic personality. He builds an excellent rapport both with orchestras and audiences.

In a remarkably short time, Yasuo Shinozaki has acquired a truly international reputation for his emotionally direct style of music making. Born in Japan, he studied in Vienna, Sienna and the United States, came to prominence in Finland, and spent three successful years as Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic before making his home in London. He has also achieved notable success in his homeland.
