Catrin Finch - 'Remaking the Goldbergs'

Bach - The Goldberg Variations (BWV 988)

Described as ‘The Queen of Harps’, Catrin has delighted audiences with her performances all over the world. Catrin is the former Royal Harpist to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales and was recently described as ‘one of classical music’s most exciting and prodigiously talented young stars’ (Classic FM magazine). Before hearing her play, we screen a short film about her year-long project to adapt Bach’s great keyboard work for the harp.

‘The limpid, translucent colours of Catrin Finch's harp bring Bach's familiar masterpiece to life in a quite new and unexpected way. Her transcription is imaginative but faithful, her playing dazzling and poetic, her interpretation fit to stand beside Glenn Gould's and yet utterly different and captivating; I have never enjoyed the Goldberg Variations more. You can listen intently and hear details you may never have noticed before ...... or you can sit back and just let the music weave its unique spell. No one could fail to enjoy it’ – John Rutter.
