The Fitzwilliam Quartet, who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, have a long and distinguished history. Their first appointment was at York University where they achieved worldwide recognition for their close association with Dmitri Shostakovich who befriended them and invited them to record his string quartets. Their local links continue, as does their international reputation and we are delighted to welcome them as resident artists for this year’s festival.
